Congratulations to Shelley for being the winner of the title of Beauty Boss of the Month, after being nominated by Gilmor Bridgend!

After congratulating her on being a winner, we asked Shelley a few questions about herself so that we could all get to know her better...

How did you get into Hairdressing?

I always wanted to be a hairdresser since I was a little girl. The first opportunity I had was work experience through school in studio 14 in Bridgend and at the end of the week he offered me a job after school and on Saturdays.

What was your most surprising part of the job?

It didn’t take long into my career that I realised it’s not just about doing hair, it’s how great it is to make someone feel so good about themselves.

What has been your favourite client request?

I love it when a client says just do whatever you want!

How do you feel about becoming a finalist for Avantgarde Hairdresser of the Year for Hairdressers Journals British Hairdressing Awards 2022?

Becoming a finalist for Avantgarde Hairdresser of the year is just the best feeling, to have my name up there with the industry’s greatest is like a dream.

Talk us through your average day.

Well, I mostly wake up happy. My day varies as I’m sometimes an educator and also work in my Salon but I absolutely love doing both. It's 26years since I began and I still love going to work.

What advice would you give to others?

The best thing I’d advise is keep up to date with your education. The industry is constantly changing which keeps it exciting. Your clients love knowing their hairdresser is up to date with the latest trends.

What are your hopes and plans for the future?

2023 is going to be big for education for me and my brand Shelley Lane Inspires. I’m going to be running lots of works shops for hairdressers, and also teaching styling to clients, one 2 one and group sessions.
