Congratulations to Abi for being the winner of the title of Beauty Boss of the Month, after being nominated by Gilmor Bridgend!

After congratulating her on being a winner, we asked Abi a few questions about herself so that we could all get to know her better...

How did you get into Hairdressing?

I was 14, in comprehensive school, and one of my friends mothers owned a salon and my neighbour also worked there. In December they had a really busy day ahead so my neighbour came to see if I would go and help out. I did and I loved it! I got a Saturday job there, which my boss was initially reluctant over because I was friends with her son, but she gave in, took me on, trained me up and I ended up buying the salon off her, so it all worked out dreamy in the end!

What was your most surprising part of the job?

When I first started I was surprised at how busy we were! We didn't stop! We still don't, we live on tea and crisps!

What has been your favourite client request?

Over the 20 years I have been hairdressing, for me its designing new cuts and colours for my clients and of course, doing a bridal party is always a pleasure!

What are your favourite techniques?

I love working with foils and I also love a root melt! My favourite foiling technique would depend on what overall look I was going for and what colour I want to achieve.

Talk us through your average day.

My average day! Well! I drop the children to school and get to the salon for 9:30am ready for a full day of clients. I have about 3 cups of coffee through the day and a packet of crisps and then I head home to my hubby and kids. I pour myself a large glass of well-deserved wine while I cook dinner, then I sort the kids out and sleep like a baby all night!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I love going on courses or trips to get inspiration and I love meeting lots of like-minded people to bounce off one-another. I have just come back from the milk_shake Majorca hair event and it was amazing! I also love following educators on instagram to get top tips and formulas. Scott Bayliss from milk_shake is incredible. @scott_tbhair

What advice would you give with others?

My advice would be to 'never give up' - keep training, keep pushing to be busy because it gives you such an adrenalin rush after a good day working your socks off on the salon floor. Always do your best for your client and keep team building!

What are your hopes and plans for the future?

I've had my salon for 4 years and I love it! I've got a fantastic team behind me which I would like to build to be a bit bigger. I've also entered the educational side and I really enjoy passing my knowledge and experience onto the next up and coming generation of hairdressers!
